Healthy Heart Environment is the theme and focus this year on World Heart Day being celebrated each year on 29th September since the year 2000. Globally 17.3 million precious lives are lost each year by Heart Diseases which are much more than that due to accidents, cancer, critical aliments and natural calamities. Everyone has the chance to make Healthy Heart Choices wherever they live, work and play. World heart day encourages us all to reduce our cardiovascular risk and promote a Heart healthy planet for those around us. 80% of premature deaths from heart diseases could be avoided if four main risk factors including tobacco use, unhealthy diet, physical inactivity and alcohol use are controlled. Heart diseases encompasses a range of conditions including blood vessel diseases such as Coronary Artery Disease (CAD), problems with Heart Rhythm (Arrhythmias), problems of the Hearth muscles (Cardiomyopathies), Valves (Valvular Heart Disease) and Congenital Heart diseases. Coronary Artery Disease is the most common type of Heart disease. It occurs when the blood vessels are narrowed enough to cause chest pain and shortness of breath called Angina or complete blockage of blood vessels causing Heart attack. The rhythm disturbances occur when the heart beats too quickly, too slowly or irregularly. The following strategies are helpful to prevent the Heart diseases;
CARE OF HEART DISEASES:
· Smoking or using tobacco of any kind is one of the most significant risk factor. Chemicals in tobacco damage heart blood vessels leading to Hearth attack. Don’t smoke and use tobacco for Healthy Heart.
· 40-50 minutes exercise on most days of the week reduces the risk of Heart attack by reducing the deposits in the blood vessels which cause narrowing and blockage.
· Heart healthy diet includes fruits, vegetables, whole grains, plant based cooking oil, and fish.
· Excess weight is not friendly and healthy for Heart, even a small weight loss is beneficial and good for Heart.
· Good sleep is essential for healthy Heart and prevents Obesity, High blood pressure, Heart attack, Diabetes and Depression. Everyone must know his Weight, Waist, Blood Pressure, Blood Sugar and Cholesterol levels especially those having a family history, smokers, over weight and associated with illness like blood pressure and diabetes.
