Humans are blessed with five special senses which are
vision, smell, taste, hearing and touch. Hearing is the ability to perceive
sound by detecting vibrations and changes in pressure of the surrounding medium
through an organ such as ear. Sound travels through solids, liquids and gases.
Human ear has three parts i.e., external, middle and inner ear. Inner ear is
the organ of hearing and balance connected to brain. The skull bones are also
called as third ear, since they transmit sound waves to inner ear. The sound
waves are collected by external ear and transmitted through middle ear to inner
ear. Any problem affecting external ear, ear drum and middle ear affects
hearing. The problems which affect the inner ear lead to almost permanent
deafness or hearing loss. The common causes include hard wax, infections of
ear, aging, sudden or regular exposure to loud sound ,drugs like some
antibiotics, cancer drugs etc., diseases like high blood pressure, diabetes,
disorders of blood circulation and head trauma .Hearing usually fades
slowly and goes un-noticed. The person feels trouble when more than one person
speak at once, as if people are not speaking clearly, misunderstanding of what
is said, often need of repetition and devices used for hearing seems faulty
like phone etc. The following simple measures help to prevent the Hearing Loss;
CARE OF HEARING LOSS:
1. Avoid loud noisy environment.
2. Clean ears especially after exposure to dusty and polluted
environment.
3. Treat ear, nose, throat allergies and infections promptly.
4. Consult doctor for any hearing problem immediately.
5. Keep good control of chronic diseases in regular
consultation with your physicians.
6. Hearing aids are helpful only when prescribed.
7. Never use any medicines unless prescribed by a qualified
Medical Practitioner.
